In this T.N.T. guitar lesson video series, I will show you note-for-note how to play one of AC/DC’s most beloved songs in it’s entirety.
As I mention in the video lessons, the tuning for T.N.T. on the original recording is a little bit flat and not quite standard tuning. This could have been intentional during the recording process, or perhaps just something that happened during the mixing/mastering phase. In any case, trying to play along with the original recording will sound off whether you are tuned to standard or a half-step down. The original tuning lies somewhere between those two tunings.
There are videos on YouTube that have taken the original recording and raised the pitch back to standard tuning, so that may good resource to use when attempting to practice along with the track. In the first video I will cover all of the riffs and the outro section. These riffs are extremely simple and would be a great rhythm workout for the beginning rock guitarist to learn. However, the rhythms also need to be very tight rhythmically. Focus on staying in the pocket.
In the second video lesson I will tackle Angus Young’s short but fiery guitar solo note-for-note. Unlike the riffs found in this T.N.T. guitar lesson series, the solo has some very challenging licks thrown in there. In fact, for the most part, the solo is almost entirely made of a fast alternate picked licks based around the pentatonic and blues scales. I suggest isolating each one of these licks and practicing as a separate technical exercise until you can get it up to speed. From there, just putt everything together as you get all the licks under control.
Besides being one of classic rock’s most beloved songs, “T.N.T.” offers something great to learn for all guitar levels. I hope you can find your own inspiration from these lessons. 🙂
